Pace

Most Southampton speeding tickets are verified by the police by either radar or laser. Some tickets will involve a pace. A pace is where the police officers vehicle follows you’re vehicle for a period of time. The office need not follow you for too long, but will need to testify that he or she did follow you at a certain speed, and that the distance between his or her vehicle and your vehicle were the same during that period of time.

Speeding tickets based on pace are not as accurate as tickets based on either radar or laser, which generally have an accuracy of plus or minus one mile per hour (moving radars are generally plus or minus 2 miles per hour). When trying a speeding ticket based on a pace, it is important that you review the calibration records of the officer’s vehicle during the trial to see if the police officers speedometer was accurate and functioning properly at the time of the pace.
