Most cases coming into the office are speeding tickets. Southampton police give out an extraordinary amount of speeding tickets. The problem is that a conviction to a speeding ticket carries points on your license as well as other consequences. The amount of points depends on how many miles per hour over the speed limit you are convicted of. Most of the Southampton speeding tickets handed out by the police involve speeds in the range of 21 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. These are 6 point violations. Higher speeds of 31 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour over the limit carry 8 points. Speeds involving 41 miles per hour over the speed limit or more carry 11 points.

Accumulating 11 points within an 18 month period will result in an automatic suspension. Likewise, a conviction to 3 or more speeding tickets with dates of violation within an 18 month period will result in a an automatic 6 month suspension of your license.
